Where is my comment? E-Learning Curve Blog site maintenance notice

e-learning curve blog · plugin · wordpress

No blog post today, as I’ve just discovered that since I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress (WP2.8.0) comments haven’t been published, because of a plugin being incompatible with this version of WordPress.

Virginia, Suzanne, and all the others who have commented: apologies for apparently not getting back to you – I wasn’t being rude, the technology was, for once getting in the way rather than facilitating dialog.

So today is a time to pause, reflect – and sort out the back end of the site.

I’ve just batch-approved all comments since mid-May and I expect you’ll get an e-mail notifier that your comment has been approved. If you’ve taken the time to write to me, and you haven’t got a notification, let me know via e-mail and I’ll investigate further.

Thanks for your patience!

Tomorrow: Normal service resumes – Brandon Hall

    Kia ora Michael!

What a bother for you mate. I thought I was unfortunate when my PC died and blogging from home was suspended for a few weeks while I sorted things. But to have the site itself exhibit dysfunction is something else. I hope it is sorted soon.

    Cead Míle Fáilte Ken,

Appreciate the sympathy my friend – hopefully it's resolved now. I guess one of the challenges of using open source software is that with so many contributors developing new functionality and plugins, there's no guarantee that each community-created piece of code will interoperate correctly with each new release of an app, though I have found WordPress to be quite stable and predicable in this regard.

The peculiar thing was, as far as I could see, the blog was working perfectly well (that is, I could post, add images & media, and do on).

It was only when someone pointed out to me that unusually I hadn't received any comments since mid-May that I actually went in to the Admin panel to see where the plumbing had sprung a leak.

Anyhoo, hopefully both input and output channels are back to normal now, though I'll be keeping a closer eye on it from now on, and be a little more circumspect about undertaking point upgrades in future!

Have you been able to revive your PC, or have you decided it's time to take the plunge and go for a new one?

    Best,

    Michael

    Tēnā koe e Michael!

Good that normal service has been resumed for your blog.

My old PC had to go to neverland. I bought a whole new set of problems in Windows Vista.

A piece of software known as Winternals helped me though, for I was literally able to pluck out of the old PC all important files, including email pst files which eventually I found a way to bring to life on the new platform.

I also copied across some dll files that I needed (and that were not present in Vista). Without those, many games my kids used as well as CIV III which my wife and I play, simply would not work. sigh.
